The foundation of Nanjing’s rich tourism resources is the uniquely ideal geographical position and its long historical and cultural heritage. As the ancient capital of six dynasties and the metropolis of ten dynasties, Nanjing is a renowned historical and cultural city, as well as a scenic tourist city in China. It has all types of tourism resources under the sun, such as mountains, rivers, city walls and forests. At the end of 2005, there were 75 tourist attractions in which 16 were class A scenic spots. Those that are renowned at home and abroad are the world heritage-Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, the tomb of the great revolutionary forerunner, Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, the weather-worn administrative center of the previous Nationalist Government - the Presidential Palace, Confucius Temple - a venue full of cultural ambience and last but not least, the Qinhuai Scenery.

During the tenth five-year-plan, the municipal government had put in great effort to repair the existing longest and most complete ancient city wall, the Nanjing Ming Great Wall; and to construct the departure place of Zheng He’s seven vovages and the Baochuan Park. The completion of these new scenic spots which are full of great historical significance and tourism value have added luster to the already dazzling tourism resources of Nanjing. Other than the rich natural and cultural tourism resources, Nanjing has yet another large batch of famous tourist products: brocade fabric –once a royal tribute with more than seven hundred years of history, Jinlin salted duck – leaving endless aftertaste and mouthful of fragrance, Yuhua pebbles – stones with a riot of colors that make you reluctant to put down. These products are full of market prospects and worth developed vigorously.
The combination of all these different types of quality tourism resources has established the excellent congenital advantage of the tourism industry development in Nanjing.
